The scattering of a narrow laser beam by the randomly uneven Earth's surface under shading conditions is considered. Analytical expressions are derived for the received power average under conditions of both weak and strong shading with the normal distribution of the surface heights and slopes. They allow specifying a kind of dependence of the received power average on the radiation illumination and reception geometry, on the source and receiver parameters. The derived analytical expressions are in agreement with numerical results.
