Results of the study and solution of problems arising in the development of inter-satellite and atmospheric optical lines for communication and data transfer are presented. Requirements to communication lines and principles of constructing them are considered. Their role and place in the contemporary and advanced satellite communication systems are defined. The mono-antennae principle of constructing the duplex communication line is justified as the most optimal one in view of technical and economic factors. An original system of pointing the ultra-narrow light beams is considered which operates under vibration conditions of satellites with the accuracy of 0.2-0.4 angular seconds. A new generation of communication laser radiators is developed which operate within the range of 0.81-0.86 µm with power of 150-200 mWt and life of 10-20 thousand hours. Based on them the first domestic high-speed transmitters are created which have the transfer rate per channel of 300 and 622 Mbit/s in the mode of frequency interleaving in two channels.
