A mockup of the correlation lidar with a small measurement base is described. Results of experimental studies of the operative method for measuring the wind velocity with adaptive selection of measurement base, which were conducted in the near-surface atmosphere layer, are given. It is shown that the measuring of aerosol inhomogeneities and the adaptive selection of the measurement-base size according to the found criterion allow one to improve the accuracy of operative determination of the wind velocity by correlation lidars.
