Approaches to the DBMS query optimizer’s plan construction is reviewed. Algorithms of upward and downward strategies to find an optimal plan are detailed on the set of the query optimizer’s plans. Examples of using the above strategies are given. Methods to improve the downward finding strategy algorithm are offered which allow increasing its productivity.
